The TREACHEROUS ORCHESTRA - live

3 April 2010

A turbo-charged thirteen-piece supergroup comprising some of Scotlands finest young instrumentalists, The Treacherous Orchestra features members of Salsa Celtica, The Peatbog Faeries, Session A9 and Box Club [to name but a few].  Their astounding musicianship combines with ferocious energy and sophisticated musical arrangements with explosive results, earning them a fearsome reputation as an incendiary live act.

Emerging from the vibrant melting-pot of Glasgows 21st-century folk scene, The Treacherous Orchestra take Scottish dance music into a thrilling new dimension.  Having grown up under the influence of such pioneering fusion acts as Shooglenifty, Martyn Bennett and Croft No. 5, they draw simultaneously on deep traditional roots and contemporary influences.  Featuring bagpipes, whistles, flutes, fiddles, accordion, banjo, guitars, bass, drums and percussion, their repertoire consists almost entirely of original tunes.

***** You know there's something special when you have 1600 people dancing and singing for hours on end.  It's incredible to hear so much energy in every tune.   Nothing on the Scottish folk scene quite compares to this. Sunday Mail

***** The Treacherous Orchestra are a terrific party band, but one with lofty creative ambitions to bend traditional music into virile new shapes.   As well as exciting seasoned folk fans, they have successfully tapped into a youthful constituency who might otherwise have spent Saturday night at the student union disco but, instead, cannot wait for their next bout of treachery.

THE SMITHS INDEED - live

17 April 2010

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the seminal album Meat Is Murder ... performing the album in its entirety plus other Smiths classics

The Smiths Indeed are now regarded as Europe's number one tribute band to the legendary Manchester band The Smiths [1982-1987], who themselves were recently voted "most influential band of the 20th century" by the NME.

Not only recreating the sound of The Smiths, The Smiths Indeed also get into the original look, the instruments, the hair, the flowers, the clothes and the imagery.  Lead singer Jurgen not only sounds uncannily like Morrissey but resembles him as well, with his odd-gob jaw and foppish hair.

Just in case any of The Smiths want to check out The Smiths Indeed for themselves Stephen Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce are on the guest list for the gig.

HEADSPIN feat Rebecca Vasmant

17 April 2010

The original four-deck mix of beats, funk, hiphop, house + more, with live percussion

Tonight we're joined by local rising DJ star Rebecca Vasmant, who is building a big name for herself.  Expect a mixed bag of house, broken beat, jazz, funk, disco, soul and trip-hop when she steps up to the Headspin decks.

Start with some hiphop head-nodding.  Get grooving with some funk-fuelled fun and deadly disco dancefloor destroyers.  Be prepared for the electro onslaught and the hands-in-the-air house moments.  Lifting you on an ever-upward trajectory, the Headspin residents will treat you to the benefit of their considerable experience

Another chance to be amazed by the superb resident DJ team doing the hip-funk-house-electro-disco-hop-thing on 4 decks.  Expect the finest funk, hiphop, house + electro beats, teased + tweaked with panache by your favourite funky disco jocks Allan Dunbar / Steve Austin / Dava & Bongo Dave, plus visual projections by Foundlight

Bringing the club to a frenzy with their up-front selection of funky party tunes moving into filthy electronic numbers designed to destroy the dancefloor, no-one can rock the Headspin crowd quite like the residents can - prepare to be blown away

JOSHUA RADIN - feat Lissie - live *SOLD OUT*

24 April 2010

DF Concerts present Joshua Radin live, with Lissie in support

This event has *SOLD OUT* - no further tickets are available

Joshua Radin is an American singer-songwriter, playing acoustic indie/folk, born and raised in Shaker Heights, Ohio, now resident in New York.  He's released two albums, "We Were Here" [Columbia] in 2006 and "Simple Times" [Mom and Pop Records] in 2008.

Radin, raised on the sounds of 1960s Motown, Stax and Beatles records, as well as singer-songwriters of the early '70s such as Paul Simon, Cat Stevens and James Taylor, turned to music after college, when he moved to NY City, bought a guitar and taught himself to play and write music.

When close friend and actor/film-maker Zach Braff heard a demo of Radin’s song “Winter,” he was immediately interested, and got the song onto the show Scrubs in the episode “My Screw Up.”  The song received an overwhelmingly positive response and gave Radin substantial exposure with the show’s demographic.  The songs “Today”, “Closer”, “Don’t Look Away” and “These Photographs” were also used on the show.

Since, Joshua’s songs have been further featured on the Fox Television drama North Shore, and the ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. His song “Star Mile” is on The Last Kiss movie soundtrack.  Most recently his song “What If You” was featured on soundtrack to the movie Catch and Release.

Support tonight comes from Lissie  "a guitar-toting Americana lovechild"  The Guardian

Golden-haired American girl Lissie spent an idyllic childhood on the banks of the Mississippi river, dabbling in music.  "We had a guitar around the house so I used to write poems and then play four chords along to them", she states.  As a headstrong teen she developed "quite a bit of a 'tood" and quit university to focus solely on her music, a breezy blend of country, blues and folk delivered with an air of nostalgic simplicity.

A decade of cigarettes and drinking later, and she's being compared to other strong, earthy types such as Chrissie Hynde, Laura Marling and Sheryl Crow.  Her recently released EP 'In Sleep' will realise its ambitions of winning over our hearts, and a sure sign that summer is just around the corner.  Jess Hazel - The Fly
